Rochdale Council is looking to appoint an Heritage Engagement Manager for the Victorian Rochdale Town Hall. Rochdale Town Hall is a building of the highest level of national importance, its Grade 1 listing placing it within the top 2.5% of buildings nationally. It was described by the 20th century architectural historian Pevsner “as one of the dozen most ambitious High Victorian town halls of England…of rare picturesque beauty, boasting splendid interior schemes”.
The restoration of this historic building is a significant project for the borough of Rochdale and has received substantial investment from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The Council’s ambition and vision is to gift Rochdale Town Hall back to the people of the Borough, actively involving people in telling their stories as testimony to Rochdale’s manufacturing, entrepreneurial and trading past and present, the continuity of its civic purpose and philanthropy, and its celebratory communal heritage, creating a shared sense of Rochdalian identity, pride and ownership.
