Culture in Crisis Report

The Centre for Cultural Value at the University of Leeds has just released a report on Culture in Crisis. This report shares the results of its investigations into the impacts of Covid-19 on the cultural industries and is highly relevant for industrial heritage sites and organisations.

The key findings are:

  • Audiences: the shift to digital forms of interaction transformed cultural experiences for those already engaged with cultural activities but failed to diversify audiences.
  • Workforce: the UK’s cultural sector is facing imminent burnout alongside significant skills and workforce gaps.
  • Organisations: in light of Covid and Black Lives Matter, many organisations re-evaluated their purpose and their relevance to local communities, which was complemented by increased local engagement.
