The National Lottery Heritage Fund is working with Heather Lomas and Emma Chaplin to research the current landscape for UK museum collections, including industrial heritage collections. The research focuses on how collections are stored, acquired, and rationalised, as well as the extent to which stored collections are accessible to the public.
The findings will directly inform the National Lottery Heritage Fund’s approach to supporting museums across the UK through its Heritage 2033 Strategy. Responses to the survey will play an important role in shaping this work and are greatly valued.
Museums are asked to complete the survey by 11 February 2026. It should be completed by someone with strong knowledge of the museum’s collection, such as a Museum Manager, Director, Collections Manager, or Curator. Responses are welcomed from museums of all types and sizes, from across the UK.
