Many industrial heritage sites have seasonal exhibitions, and amongst the offerings for summer 2025 are three new, free, temporary displays from the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, National Coal Mining Museum for England, and the Silk Museum in Macclesfield.
At the the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust the free exhibition for 2025 is called Different Strokes: The Local Paintings of Bob Rhodes and the Life of Captain Matthew Webb. The exhibition explores the legacy of two local men: Bob Rhodes (1946-2017), a local artist who captured the spirit and beauty of the Ironbridge Gorge in his stylistic paintings, and Captain Matthew Webb, who made history as the first person to swim the English Channel in 1875. The exhibition, which can be found in the Coalbrookdale Gallery in the Museum of Iron, runs until 2nd November 2025.
The National Coal Mining Museum for England at Wakefield has an exhibition called From the Earth Comes Light: Women, Creativity and Mining in 20th Century Britian, which runs until 28th September. This showcases artworks that highlight women’s significant roles and contributions to mining, as narrated by the women themselves.
Finally, the Silk Museum in Macclesfield is hosting the Marking Time: Translating the Pattern Book Archive exhibtion, which runs until the 30th August. This is a ‘stitch & mixed media’ exhibition by the Loose Threads group, who have taken inspiration from the Museum’s pattern book archive.
