National Lottery Heritage Fund Support for Historic Didcot Engine Shed Restoration

The HLF has announced initial funding to support the restoration of the historic Didcot Engine Shed. The Grade II listed structure was built in 1932 and is the last remaining example of this type of engine shed in the UK.

The development funding of £184,000 has been awarded to help the Great Western Society, who own the Engine Shed, progress plans to apply for a full National Lottery grant at a later date.

Didcot Railway Centre is home to one of the most extensive and significant collections of heritage steam engines and rolling stock in the United Kingdom. It holds a special place in the hearts of railway enthusiasts, historians, and the general public, serving as a crucial guardian of Great Western Railway heritage. It offers a unique experience where visitors can explore a working shed and walk around and climb aboard the locomotives.
