Historic England’s Snapshot Survey on the Collection of Developer-Funded Archaeological Archives has now been published as a Historic England Research Report.
Conducted as part of the Future for Archaeological Archives Programme, the survey gathered data on whether repositories were collecting, as well as capacity and collecting limitations. The results were also mapped to identify trends and regional variations. As part of this research, the survey not only gathered fresh data but also expanded the study to retrospectively review the findings of previous surveys. This approach has allowed a review of how the collection and curation of developer-funded archaeological archives has evolve in the last 20+ years, while highlighting key trends and ongoing issues facing the sector.
