Four professional heritage practice associations have joined forces to develop and launch a new online initiative called The Arc, to help those responsible for, or working on, historic places or objects, such as industrial heritage sites, to quickly find specialist historic environment professionals.
CIfA (Chartered Institute for Archaeologists), CIAT (Accredited Conservationists), Icon (Accredited Conservator-Restorers), and Construction Professionals who have completed the CIOB Building Conservation Certification Scheme developed The Arc website as a joint project. The rationale behind the creation of The Arc is to increase awareness of archaeology and archaeologists, and other specialist historic environment professionals, who are able to provide a wide variety of clients with expert advice, and to raise the profile of their professional bodies.
The website is designed to be used by a wide variety of clients, including architects, interior designers, building contractors, civil engineering contractors, housebuilders and property developers, alongside custodians of public buildings, museum sites and collections, and private individuals. The aim is to help them quickly and easily locate the expertise that they need.
The historic environment specialists listed on The Arc’s registers are recognised by their professional bodies as highly skilled, qualified specialists in the study and care of our historic environment, with specialist knowledge and skills, who have signed up to a code of professional ethics.
