CBA ‘Trowel & Error’ Survey Live

The Council for British Archaeology (CBA) is running a survey exploring people’s experiences and understanding of archaeological content and outputs. The aim of ‘Trowel & Error: Figuring out the past together through archaeology’ project is to help the CBA and the archaeological community to better understand what varying audiences hope to gain from archaeology.

There are dozens of industrial archaeology and heritage societies in Britain run by volunteers, and many industrial museum and heritage sites undertake archaeological fieldwork and excavations. This survey is very relevant to their work and research, and a chance for the industrial heritage sector to influence the future policy work of the CBA.

The Council for British Archaeology is the leading UK charity for archaeology of all periods, and is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year (2024). CBA was the first national organisation to promote Industrial Archaeology as a discpiline and as volunteer activity when it emerged int he 1950s.
