The UK government has announced the fourth round of its Museum Estate and Development Fund (MEND). This is an open-access capital fund targeted at non-national Accredited museums and local authorities based in England. Qualifying museums are invited to apply for funding to undertake vital infrastructure and urgent maintenance backlogs which are beyond the scope of day-to-day maintenance budgets. £23.8 million is available this round in grants from £50,000 to £5 million.
Expressions of Interest open on 4th March 2024 via Arts Council England. Applicants will be notified of the decision outcome in March 2025. Since it was launched in 2021, 67 projects have received a total of more than £40m from the Department for Culture, Media & Sport fund which is delivered by Arts Council England. This has included several industrial heritage museums and sites such as Bletchley Park and the London Transport Museum.
