Derby Museums Launches Flood Damage Appeal

Derby Museums has launched an appeal to help retore and repair the Museum of Making (the Old Silk Mill), which was flooded on 21 October. On that day the River Derwent reached 3.58m above its usual level. This is the highest level since records began and well above the flood defence design limits for the museum.

The museum remains closed due to flood water entering the building and causing significant damage. The kitchen and workshop were the worst hit areas. The floor in the Civic Hall and all ground floor internal doors were also damaged. Derby Museum are working with professional contractors on the clean-up, which includes leaving the building to dry out.
