The annual conference Association of Independent Museums (AIM) will be coming to the Black Country Living Museum, in the West Midlands, in June 2024, highlighting the role of industrial heritage museums in Britain.
The Black Country Living Museum first opened to the public in 1978, and has since added over 50 shops, houses, and other industrial buildings from around the metropolitan boroughs of Dudley, Sandwell, and Walsall, and the City of Wolverhampton. Most buildings were relocated from their original sites to form a base from where demonstrators portray life spanning 300 years of history, with a focus on 1850–1950, all focussed on a canal basin, rolling mill, and forge.
The museum continues to evolve, as further buildings and other exhibits are added. During the COVID pandemic lock downs (2020-22) its TikTok videos became international social media hits.
The conference dates for you diary are Thursday 13th and Friday 14th June 2024. Details on how to book will be released by AIM later.
